Last Day of Yellow Buses Today / More to Replace Routes from Saturday

Today, Thursday 4th August 2022, is the last day of Yellow Buses running on the streets of Bournemouth, ending 120 years of history.

There's no mention on Yellow's website yet. Maybe their staff are busy applying for other jobs. The Bournemouth Echo confirms the situation.

Tomorrow, Friday 5th August, will see no service on any Yellow routes.

From Saturday 6th August, More step in with an emergency timetable of replacement routes covering most of the Yellow network.

Here's the Yellow network as it stands on their final day:

... and here are the replacement routes that More will be running from Saturday:

More (no pun intended) as we get it.

  4. Hearing rumours that More will be reintroducing the 12 route between Alum Chine and Hengistbury Head. Can someone please confirm whether this is true or not?

  5. They've stated they hoped to reintroduce it next year as they had to optimise resources for the main Yellow Buses network, but as they are losing 6/7 buses worth of work from this weekend having not been awarded the tenders for 6 18 and 33 they may be able to do something straight away.

    1. When you look at the old wrecks that they operate on the New Forest Tour and the Needles Breezer, you have to wonder where they will suddenly find another two open top vehicles? If they are serious about open toppers, they really need to invest some money. Or will they, yet again, buy new for the Purbeck Breezers, and cascade the knackered ones down?

  7. The current New Forest Tour buses are in their last season. The problem of replacements is to do with the height of the buses with their roofs on. The current East Lancs can get under the 14ft 3in bridge at Ampress OK with their roofs on. The Darwin Scanias and Evosetis have been tried and they are a little too close for comfort should they bounce a bit. The current thinking is that converting some E400's will work as they are lower than the Darwins and Evosetis. The Yellow Buses situation has thrown the replacement programme up in the air as Lymington was due to receive some ex Uni E400's for X1 X2 but the vehicle situation is going to be a bit fluid over the next few months.

    1. I have heard from drivers that the existing New Forest Tour buses are in their last season, for the last four years! The Evosettis are slightly lower than them, if the height information is correct. Converting any E400s would result in permanent open tops, which would have little use out of season.Unless you mean converting MMC models, the existing E400s are surely too old to convert, with the newest being 7 years old already?

    2. My information came from an informal chat with Go South Coast management at an Institute of Transport event last year. I was told that they were considering doing permanent part open tops to 6 of the low 15xx series 62 or 63 plate E400s released as part of vehicle swaps from the arrival of the new Uni buses. These would have a lower book value than the 66 plate Evo's but are newer than the current 05/59 Volvo/Scania. The advantage would be that they could do New Forest Tour for 6 weeks in the summer (and fit under Ampress Bridge) but would be available at Poole/Bournemouth from Easter through to October for use on the 60/70 etc instead of having to wait for the mass de-roofing that takes place in June/July. It's a bit like the all year round 50's using the part open tops, they've been known to be popular throughout the winter if it's a sunny day. There is no reson why they couldn't be used all year round with the top deck closed off.
Of course the Yellow Buses situation has thrown a spanner in the works but the last I heard was it was going to happen before next summer. It's helped by the New Forest Tour now only running in the main summer holiday so not needed until July 2023.

    3. So they propose converting vehicles that will be 10 years old by then? That really would be crazy. They are not even close to the quality of the Volvo fleet currently employed, which have soldiered on way past their intended use.
The New Forest Tour averages 10 weeks each year, rather than six. It is not possible to close off the top deck, or fit a locking door between covered and open areas, due to fire regulations. They really do need to spend some money, or forget open top operations imo.

  10. I was in Bournemouth yesterday and noticed one of the ex-Yellows open-toppers was being used on the new route 12, with a Morebus logo painted on the side

    1. Morebus did purchase the two open-toppers from the Yellow Buses administrators as I understand it.
