It's another weekend of bus service changes, again concentrated in Bournemouth, mainly on More.
We were also expecting some kind of change to the timetable on Bluestar 2 from Monday, but the new timetable on Traveline is exactly the same as the current one, so it could just be a minor registration amendment related to the rolling roadworks in North Stoneham. Or maybe it's to do with this.
Anyway, back to Bournemouth for some actual changes. Details from More here.
X3 Bournemouth-Salisbury The 1735 weekdays/1745 Saturday service from Bournemouth will now be an X6 at 1745, no longer serving Boscombe.
X6 Bournemouth-Poole via Ringwood Minor timing changes to most journeys.
X8 Poole-Blandford New stop in the car park of Lidl Blandford. Will also be served by the X8A Blandford town service.
11 Poole-Bearwood Minor changes.
20 Poole-Castlepoint Timetable recast.
38 Ringwood-Ferndown Minor changes with some additional journeys.
40 Poole-Swanage Winter timetable starts.
50 Bournemouth-Swanage Winter timetable starts.
60 Poole-Sandbanks Winter timetable starts.
Ringo One/Two Ringwood town service Minor changes. Last weekday bus now at 1615, instead of 1645.
Plus we have the staggered ending of seasonal summer services on routes 5, 30 and 152.
Staying in Bournemouth, all Unibus routes resume their termtime timetable from Sunday.
I got told by someone that works at First Empress Road as a driver that they only now have 127 drivers but when the network was a lot bigger 10 years ago there was 240 odd Drivers
ReplyDeleteThey will have even less soon, as many are planning their escape to the blues! Lots of applicants for the next batch of recruitment, ready for the next big expansion. Best get that old training coach out again!
DeleteMate I have seen it out the past few weeks.
DeleteOne of the things that isn't changing at morebus is also notable. Normally the m1/m2 evening service reduces frequency for the winter but this year it is staying at the summer level.
ReplyDeleteUnilink changes are all very minor as are Southern Vectis changes by the look of it.

All it is timetable variations. 11 is West Totton of course & not to be confused with First's 11 to Weston ;-0
DeleteAn error I would presume-Should read West Totton
ReplyDeleteYellow Buses launched a new Night Bus N5 today from Bournemouth Square to the University on Thursday and Saturday early mornings. Probably won't last very long.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, they did a free travel offer on last night's service.
DeleteWhich I'm sure has nothing to do with the fact that it's registered to start from the 28th September :D
And what evidence do you have to suggest it won't last long..it seems all operators except Go Ahead seem to attract unfair criticism on this blog..as others have said should it not be re-titled the Go Ahead fan club bus blog
DeleteI admit Bluestar aren`t perfect as they should have provided updates on today`s travel chaos in Southampton but failed
Delete@Anon 20:35 Mostly because of this: https://www.vehicle-operator-licensing.service.gov.uk/search/find-registered-local-bus-services/details/481043/ and the fact that every new Yellow route in recent years hasn't. (Anyone remember the N1a?) I wish them every succes but I find it hard to belive that they have found a suitable gap in the market considering the recent withdrawal of such a similar service, and that the majority services to BU are provided by GSC who have been verv quick fill such gaps where possible. There probably is some expansion possible though.
DeleteWonder if it'll be free on Wednesday?
Back in 2015, YB ran the exact same route N5 from Bournemouth to the University via Winton and Ensbury Park. It lasted one summer.
ReplyDeleteThough at the time I believe it had competition from More's N3 on the same route, and was also during the summer where there are no University students (clearly the target market here), so maybe there's a chance for better success this time round?
Go-South-Coast are starting to employ casual contracted drivers but on the top rate of pay.
ReplyDeleteIs GSC or the whole group becoming Gig Ahead, then?
ReplyDeleteOr is it a local measure to cope with unusual circumstances like long term works on the A338. At this time buses toward BOurnemouth suffer a 20-30 minute diversion, but later problems are likely to worsen.
GSC have always had some casual drivers, mainly for the events and festivals and so on. Wasn't aware of any major change to this?
ReplyDeleteIts zero hours paid for regular bus services.
