Changes this weekend 22nd/23rd July

Several changes across the region this weekend. Click the route numbers for timetables. Here are the full details:


Starting in Bournemouth and Poole with changes on More, and Yellow Buses:


  • More 60 Poole-Sandbanks - Seasonal frequency increase to half-hourly every day from 22nd July until 2nd September
  • More 70 Poole-Bournmouth - Seasonal service runs daily from 22nd July until 2nd September
  • More 99 Beach Bus Hythe-Lymington - Seasonal service runs daily from 23rd July until 2nd September
  • Yellow C1 Alum Chine-Castlepoint - Frequency increase and open top buses on some journeys
  • Yellow P4 Westbourne-Southbourne - New weekday-only route designed to attack More M2's recent extension
  • Yellow R1-R3 Royal Line - Minor changes plus open top buses on R2 between Bournemouth and Poole
  • Yellow V1-V4 Village Line - V3 and V4 withdrawn. Replaced by additional journeys on V1 and V2. Combined daytime frequency down from 8 buses an hour to 6
  • Southbourne S1/S2 in Ringwood had been scheduled to end on 4th August, but the services have already ended, in breach of the statutory 56 days notice of any changes that operators have to give to the DVSA



In Salisbury, the 20 to Blandford, currently run by Dorset County Council, transfers to Damory from Monday.
Salisbury Reds X7 has some minor changes including an additional afternoon journey towards Southampton via Paulton's Park



Winchester has several new timetables on Stagecoach as covered in our previous post.

  1. Dorset's tendered services also see major changes this weekend, however this afternoon it has emerged that the Blandford Weymouth X12 and 187 changes have been postponed. See Damory website for details.

    2. The 60'has a shorter journey for the school holidays bypassing Canford Cliffs upsetting many of the regulars

    5. Judging by the Bournemouth Uni bus operating the route today, it might not be open top. I know the weather was awful today, but it was sat in Bournemouth Station next to an open-top 50

Should also be added to this post that Salisbury Reds have just very quietly withdrawn the x70 with seemingly no replacement, leaving a large area of The New Forest without any bus services (not that they used it anyway - hardly surprising for once a day service with no return). Despite appearances this route was not uses by the college and probably the only route to have not had any changes in over 15 years (except the closer of Salisbury Bus Station). Bizarrely in recent years GSC have not promoted this commercial service at all and have even removed it from all bus stops and made no mention of it on any of their brand's sites since re-branding W&D (tickets were still printing as 'Wilts & Dorset' in July 2017).

    1. If you look on Traveline it only ran on college days - it was a bus returning to Salisbury from the C19 college service.. This has now gone to Firstbus.

      You should not intimate that it was a quite withdrawal. Salisbury Reds will find out who you are and hunt you down to sue you.....

    3. Another result of the contract going to First is that First operated 'C' services which have previously been advertised as "the bus for shoppers, workers, everyone" are now registered as school/works while the ones Yellow Buses will take over are registered as public still. Not sure many will be affected by this though.

  4. Following notices appearing on the TC's website two weeks ago, Septembers changes at Yellow Buses are now starting to appear on Traveline.

    Ringwood, Verwood and Mudeford will cease to be served by Yellow Buses from 2nd September.

    Only one journey will operate on the B4 each way from West Moors to Bournemouth.

    The R4 is split into three with the R4 operating from the RBH to Kinson via West Howe. R5 a similar route but via Leybourne Avenue using part of the earlier 2* route and R6 - RBH to Christchurch.

    There appears to be more with the withdrawal of the opentop routes etc.

    1. I remember commenting on this site last year that First needed to take a leaf out of yellows book and stop changing their network every few months. How things have changed. Yellows have a disastrous full network recast in January and then changes pretty much every month after that. What a mess they've made of things.

    2. Ken Traveline here. The balance of the Yellows changes will be in this weeks data build, visible from Thursday after which you will have the full picture. Then it's on to First for Weymouth and Go South Coast for Poole. Over 100 registrations to process arrived in the last 10 days plus re-booting all my real time schemes for the weekend just gone! I need a holiday!!

    3. Interesting Yellow Buses changes.

      With a number of the new routes changes especially in the Kinson area - U5 and U7 to be replaced with short working on U6. Ringwood, Verwood and Mudeford are dropped. Although West Moors only has one B4 a day, B2 is being extended from Bearwood to West Moors via Longham.

    4. What a shame, the number of buses between Bearwood and Kinson will be reduced from four to one per hour. At least the B2 will provide Longham with a direct bus to Bournemouth for the first time since the X35 and 135 were withdrawn many years back. I would however like to see a more regular service on the B4, since it provides shorter journeys between West Moors and Bournemouth.

The extra X7 journey isn't quite 'extra' - the journey normally only operates as far as West Wellow, but has been extended to complete the route to Southampton (via Paultons park), so yes it is an extra possibility for anyone going from the park to southampton, but it's not extra in its entirety

  6. The 24th September service U2 is changing route.
    After Lovelia Road the bus will now turn Right onto Bassett Green Road, run along Bassett Green Road, turning right into Stoneham Lane, and will turn right at end of Stoneham Lane onto Burgess Road returning back to the University and City Centre/Mayflower Halls.

    This is due to closure of Bencraft Halls.
    This also means the majority of Bassett Green Road and Glen Eyre will now be a bus free area.

    2. Just checked out the U2 change on the Traveline website. Contradictory to what the timetable says, the map shows it terminating at the university, meaning the whole of Basset Green would be without a bus service. If the latter is true, I think First should take the opportunity to reintroduce service 5 to Swaythling and extend it to serve the U2 loop in Basset which would otherwise become car dependent.

    4. You need to view the new map on Unilnk`s site then,as it shows the U2 still serving Basset Green.

    5. There are 3 variations of the U2.
      The U2 which runs from Mayflower, Avenue Campus, Highfield Campus and Glen Eyre Halls, the U2X which runs as above but straight down The Avenue, and the U2B which runs as the U2 and continues to loop Bassett Green and via Burgess Road back to the university.

  8. Just seen first's Twitter feed it looks like they are moving to flat fares and increasing cash single and return fares across Southampton to try and move people to m-ticketing

      I am waiting to see the X37 and X38 timetables - probably a spinoff from the Brock contract?

    2. You will be seriously underwhelmed. The plan is to leave 6 buses at Brock during the day and ferry the drivers back to either Bournemouth centre or Castlepoint (for Yeomans Way) by running a couple of shoppers services. A few hours in Bournemouth or a bit less at Castlepoint then the afternoon drivers are ferried back to Brock. They won't appear on Traveline this week but should be there next week.

  10. Wheeler's W1 service is contracting to Romsey to Southampton, Monday to Friday only, service from September, leaving the Woodley area of Romsey and the huge new Abbotswood estate with just two hourly services. Wheeler's website doesn't even show all the services they run, so are Wheeler's losing interest in running bus services and reverting to a school bus / coach operator only?

  11. I know this isn't exactly to do with buses but First/MTR will be taking over the South Western rail franchise from Stagecoach this Sunday. Does anyone know if the rail timetables are changing as a result?

  12. Will First MTR actually start Sunday as the new franchise has been referred to the Competitions & Marketing Authority. The jury is still out at the CMA.

  13. Doesn't National Rail, which takes in all TOCs, change its timetables only in May and December? It's unlikely therefore that First MTR could introduce immediate time table amendments.
