First are changing their fares from this coming Saturday. They claim that nearly 63% of passengers will see no increase. The big idea is to have simpler single and return fares in multiples of 50p. See some sample fares here. Tickets valid for a day or longer are unchanged.
First 12 is diverted due to roadworks on Oakley Road for several weeks. It is currently running via Romsey Road and Tebourba Way.
Bluestar have unveiled the full new timetables for those routes that are changing on 23rd February. See them here.
Our sister blog, the British Bus Bugle, rated Southampton City Council's bus information a few weeks ago. Now, it's taken a look at Hampshire County Council, who are responsible for the rest of the county except Portsmouth. Read the Bugle's verdict here.
I note also diversions round the Central Station as from 10th February 2014 due to the redevelopment of the station area - Bluestar have published their intentions during a 17 week closure - Firstbus have so far yet to comment. Southampton centre seems to be becoming a no go area for all modes of transport - Never observed so many diversions about the place ever. PAC
ReplyDeleteYes BS have announced their diversions which give roads covered. It does not give stops affected for either those not served or the temporary stops. This is not particularly useful for those unfamiliar with street names
ReplyDeleteToday Firstbus have revealed their plans for the diversion. Interestingly the diversion only applies to outward journeys, the inward bound journeys remaining as now. This should provide the passengers with even more confusion between the two bus operators. PAC
ReplyDeleteI will bet that First have got that wrong! The road is shut!!
ReplyDeleteDirect quote from the Southampton City Council website:-
Delete"2. What diversions will be in place during the work
For the duration of the work Blechynden Terrace and West Park Road will be one way (eastbound only)."
That indicates that First are correct, but events on the ground may prove otherwise...... If so you can't really blame First if the information they recieve from the Local Authority is wrong.
Correction. Having re-read the plans, Bluestar may need to back peddle!
ReplyDeleteYes the Bluestar information has now been revised albiet with errors PAC
DeleteI now see bluestar have changed it so it is now saying buses going out of town
DeleteWell, the fare increase came in yesterday, and my wife found that the single fare from Woolston to Netley has gone from £2.45 to £3.00, an increase of over 20%. And this is after the Monday to Friday service was reduced to 2 per hour during the summer. Hardly an incentive to use the bus, is it? Could folk in Netley and Hamble PLEASE have an alternative to this rabble?
ReplyDeleteThat's Ridiculous. Why couldn't it have been £2.50.
DeleteYes in lots of instances this has happened, but they would argue if you took a return it becomes cheaper overall. i.e £3.00 single becomes £4.00 return. I know this doen't help if it's only one way you wish to go. PAC
ReplyDeleteSeem to forgotten to mention the price reductions at Weston, Millbrook, Townhill park where there are far people benefiting compared to the leafy towns outside the city
ReplyDeleteCompetition from Bluestar in Millbrook and Townhill Park,by any chance?
DeleteNot really because Weston had benefited from a fare reduction....
