Changes this weekend
It's this Sunday that First have new timetables on most routes in Southampton. See them here.
The main changes are:
Route 1 is withdrawn completely. The last bus ever from Adanac Park leaves on Saturday evening at 1840. Here are the final journeys in each direction on Saturday:
The 2 and the 10 merge into the new 2.
The 7 re-reverses its terminus loop in Townhill Park and Midanbury, resuming the route it used before February. That's clockwise, serving Townhill Park first, then Midanbury. Here's the full list of stops it will serve in the order it will serve them on the terminus loop from Sunday:

When will First release an updated timetable booklet and route map with these changes? I looked on their website and all I could find were the old ones which went out of date today.

When are they going to update bus stops? You would have thought they`d have gone round before the change begins, totally useless bunch!
Deletegood to see plenty of fiction.
DeleteHardly fiction!
DeleteHaven’t sen any bus stops incorrect so certainly seems like fiction
DeleteThere's one on New Road inbound still with the old 10 timetable, and also showing the 9 as still stopping there on the flag, which it hasn't done for over 2 years! Marsh Lane also still doesn't show the 6 stopping there which it now does.
DeleteOn a related note, there are still adverts on several bus stops along the Shirley corridor advertising the 2 as being up to every 6 mins, which should have been changed a long time ago.
The troll who said it`s fiction should stop trolling and make their way to Lordshill Centre and Library bus stops ,where they will still see signs up for route one a WEEK after its withdrawal.
DeleteWho’s a troll..anon 5/11 1925.....? Don’t look now...there are lots of operators who leave stuff up after a service withdrawal. I would imagine the key is to update timetables as opposed to the flags although most people use the internet for times now. #youneedtogetoutmore

There are bus stops on the 12 route which are still showing the Jan 2016 timetable, several timetable iterations later. For example, the Tanners Brook stops on Coxford Rd.
It seems more changes are ahead for First services in Southampton from 11 November? A number of short notice approved registrations are showing on today’s DVSA.
ReplyDeleteThey will be for the Christmas Market and Flying Santa road closures I would imagine
DeleteIs the short notice amendments for the flying santa display which starts that day given that most of those routes go over Bargate Street?
ReplyDeleteSlightly out of our area - another independent has give up - Nippy Bus in Martock, Somerset. Plenty of accounts on Somersetlive and other Somerset websites.
ReplyDeleteChristmas Day buses for the first time this year in Southampton ,with an hourly service on BS18!

DeleteIt's also being extended to serve the Hospital on this day. The fares are a but higher, £3 single and £5 return.
DeleteAlso just to note that the route will run the same way around Millbrook in both directions.
I could see the extension to the Hospital being a permanent thing in the future.
Apart from Christmas Day and a Sunday service on Boxing Day ,it seems to be standard fayre for Bluestar over Christmas and New Year.Feel sorry for the drivers working on Christmas Day though and hope they are volunteers.
DeleteWhat Philip Coley on Facebook seems to forget is that the police are 100% vital, whilst BS18 running on Christmas Day is NOT,as has been the case for more Christmases than I care to remember.
DeleteA quicker way of travelling from Portswood to Northam would be Uni-link to the Marlands, then any bus heading from the Civic Centre to Northam,Mr.Coley.
With a sunday service on Boxing Day ,it means lots of drivers will not be able to properly enjoy Christmas Day and enjoy a drink or two,due to work the next day, like many shop workers It`s all down to greed!
DeleteThe Christmas Day service will be run by volunteers like the Southern Vectis and More services are. Apparently there have been far more volunteers than the number of shifts available! Don't forget that not everyone has a close family and also plenty of bus drivers come from other cultures or religions and where Christmas Day is of no significance.
DeleteBoxing Day, well if fewer shops opened and such huge crowds didn't go shopping then less buses might be needed. But sadly they do. Boxing Day buses are busy busy busy in recent years. Don't like it but that is the way it is.
Is there an enhanced rate of pay for those that are driving seeing that premium fares are being charged?
DeleteWith the 2 now being cross-city, why don't First advertise the fact that the 8 and 12 interwork? I guess it's in case there is disruption they can insert another bus but as a passenger that regularly travels between West End and General Hospital I've at times had to get off the bus at Vincent's Walk, only to wait for several minutes to get on the exact same bus which is annoying to say the least. Plus there are no through tickets available for this journey. Disappointing.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 3 November 2017 at 19:29: You may be right, but it's worth noting that sister company More have extended the M1 to Bournemouth Hospital on Christmas Day for a couple of years (and similarly the M2 to Christchurch) but these Christmas Day extensions haven't been seen in the regular timetables.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to have the M1 and M2 working to Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch all year round!
