Unilink changes from Sunday / U2 to Swaythling / Yellow shoppers

This Sunday sees new timetables on all Unilink routes in Southampton, plus a new route for the U2, which will now serve Swaythling instead of Chilworth Roundabout. Click the route numbers for the new timetables:

Here's the route the U2 will now take from town towards Swaythling:

...and here's the route it takes from Glen Eyre towards town:

This means the return of bus services to the stops on Bassett Green Road that were abandoned by First when they withdrew their 5 back in September 2015.

Over in Bournemouth, from Monday, Yellow Buses launch two new shoppers' services that will run on Brockenhurst College days only...

The X37 (timetable here) runs between New Milton and Bournemouth, giving passengers almost 4 hours of shopping time. A more regular service along this corridor is provided by More X1/X2. Here's the X37's route:

The X38 (timetable here) runs between Ringwood and Castlepoint, but you only have 2 hours to get your shopping done. If you miss the bus back or just fancy making this trip on non-college days, then you'll need to get Yellow B3, R3, R4, R5 or More 15 to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and then More X3 or X6 to Ringwood. Here's the X38's route:

    5. Will be interesting to see what happens with the no.2,as it runs to different frequencies to the 10,especially in the evenings. Are they going to cut the evening to every 30 mins on the Shirley side?

    6. The new timetable for the 2 is now on Traveline and it will be every 20 mins in the eves.Wonder if Bluestar will increase the frequency of the 18 now.

  2. Worth noting that unlike the new X37; the x1/x2 don't serve Boscombe, Pokesdown, or the retail park at Bailey Bridge. I still don't see this service being much of a success though.

    1. Thanks for spotting that - I think the Yellow people had changed their link. Now updated.

    2. It is obviously a journey that the vehicle is making anyway after and before a Brockenhurst College contract journey, why not Start it from Brock ?

    3. Would't Brock folk naturally gravitate to S'oton rather than Bournemouth?
The X38 could serve the eastern (Poulner) part of Ringwood were it timed a little later.
I guess that is not done for operational reasons.

    4. Both X37/X38 services commence at 09:30 hrs so that concessionary passes can be accepted. it is understood the ticket machines won't except passes before this deadline.

  4. Is there any chance of a new bus service being introduced to replace the U2 along Glen Eyre Road and the western part of Bassett Green Road?

  5. Not much point. Five stops are no longer served by the U2. Two are on the Bluestar 1 route, one is round the corner from the same route (the far end of Glen Eyre Road). One is a short walk from another U2 stop, which only leaves one stop completely unserved. The rest of Glen Eyre Road is still served by the U2.

  6. Completely unrelated to any news on service changes, but First Southampton's 6 is subject to pretty major diversions at the moment, which are not publicised anywhere on their website, and are different from what are advertised on traveline. Current route to Hamble is normal route to Wright's Hill, then Portsmouth Road, Grange Road, Butlocks Heath, Ingleside to Butlocks Heath to normal line of route. It is the same in reverse. This route misses out all of Netley village itself and serves none of Station Road. I am not sure what route Xelabus are doing on the X15, although there timetable seems incorrect anyway as it says buses towards Hamble go clockwise via Ingleside and Netley, where all buses go anti-clockwise.

  7. Yes its amazing, the post was posted this morning, when there was no article and this evening a back dated article appears. Its also taken until today for First to acknowledge Newtown Road was closed. It was only shut 4 days.

    1. Couldn't find any mention of Newtown Road being closed on First's website. Did it have anything to do with the closure of Victoria Road in Netley?
