  1. Slightly early, but may I wish all at Southampton Bus Update and all those who contribute to the site a very Happy Christmas and New Year. The New Year starts with some major changes in some parts of the area covered,so things will never be quite the same on some routes-Let's hope in 2015 things will be more stable once the dust settles-Regards to all-PAC

  2. I have no doubt that yet again there will be people out at the stops in Winchester on boxing day complaining that the bus is late and who won't have it when you tell them there are no buses on boxing day (Limited BS1 excepted) because the timetable says "Sundays and public holidays" - one lady got quite irate with me last year because I was obviously trying to mislead her, so I won't bother telling people as I go past this year.

When will the bus companies change this to read "bank holidays" or ".. .(excl. Christmas day, boxing day, new years day)"?

  3. Or when will they see sense and start operating on these days. Boxing Day is extremely busy where buses do operate.

    1. Not always commercially viable though, if the drivers need paying significantly enhanced rates.

    2. From my operational and planning experience, if it isn't commercially viable on Boxing Day, it probably isn't commercially viable at all.

    3. And from my experience, I know that having to pay staff three times the normal wage on Boxing Day doesn't exactly help with viability.

    4. I'm not sure who's paying three times the normal wage?! Time and a half maybe.

  4. Believe me, that's what some operators are paying - due to long standing union agreements.
