Bournemouth & Poole changes this weekend

There are many changes happening this weekend across Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding areas. Many seasonal summer routes are back.

More have timetable changes to most routes, plus stand changes at Poole Bus Station. Don't forget the R4/R5 are being absorbed into the 14.

Unibus U5 is withdrawn from Saturday. It was only a trial route anyway, the majority of which is already covered by the more frequent U1.

Yellow introduce the summer timetable on the 7, plus a route change on the 36. The B1 to the airport is withdrawn and replaced by the new Jetbus 737.

Looking ahead, Salisbury Reds have made their plans for the summer solstice at Stonehenge. Find out how to get there here.

  1. Southampton City Council have just issued an updated version of their transport map for services within Southampton-I would imagine at some stage this will be available at all local libraries-A pretty good map all in all, however there are some minor errors.

    2. Already available at Bluestar’s Travel shop

    3. Regarding local publicity,I understand that First have dropped the 'all routes' timetable book for Southampton, and now only offer individual route leaflets.

  2. Jetbus 737 offering is a whacking diminution from B1. Surely that cannot be any encouragement to use Public Transport to and from the airport, so whose decision would it have been?

  3. Most of the traffic on the airport service is to and from the business park rather than the airport itself, so the new timetable has maintained the morning and evening peak flow journeys plus a lunchtime trip for part time workers and a couple of journeys aimed at flight departures. The new timetable was based on surveys of the actual use, and agreed by the airport and business park as the most sustainable way forward using a single bus plus additional buses from school duties to deliver targeted trips instead of using two buses all day which often carried nobody. If the new owners of the airport are successful in delivering extra flights there is always scope to upgrade the service in the future.

  4. The timetable on the Yellow Buses website only shows the 737 running Saturday and Sunday.
Traveline reveals that there is a slightly better service on Monday-Friday

Also MF service seems to be less than B1 from that link.
      I'm puzzled by your post.

    2. Ah! The problem is the Chrome pdf viewer. For some reason this doesn't display the Monday to Friday page correctly.

    3. Glad it's solved! :) Foxit for me.

  5. Wish there was a Sunday and Bank Holiday service on BS11,the weekday service seems to be well used so why not try an hourly Sunday daytime service?

    1. I think everyone agrees on this. Time they listened. Have you written to them about it?

    2. Think Bluestar don`t realise how many people actually use this route to West Totton because if you board in Southampton and ask for a return to West Totton ,the driver will sell you a Southampton plus day ticket instead which works out cheaper,so they don`t realise just how many people actually travel the whole route.

  6. Very good point. Many pass holders too, so maybe they are blissfully unaware of how well used this route is?
Not sure their drivers would want extra Sunday duties though, and that could be the answer to their reluctance. Good to hear that the 9 route is being extended down to Lepe beach during the school holidays though. That should guarantee rain!

  7. The Summer Holiday extension of Bluestar 9 to Lepe Beach can now be viewed on Traveline South West.

    1. Note to Editor..... Please get the Changes on the way page updated. The New Forest Tour starts on Saturday 7th July, not as currently stated. Thanks in anticipation.

    2. Or 'New Forset', as Bluestar's website would have it. They seem to have outsourced some of the website to a joker, if you click on the link to the South Downs Rambler (whose return this summer is as surprising as it is welcome), you get:

"Ramble ramble bramble lamble Proctor and Gamble."

What that means I have no idea but it makes a change from marketing guff.

    3. Indeed-Some of their tweets are pretty bizaire as well

    4. The ‘new forest’ is listed under days out and links to a page for things to do in the forest, one of which is the tour, it’s also listed as a tour in the tour section, so not sure where your confusion has come from, Ricky.

As for ramble bramble etc, that’s pretty funny. I would guess someone put some random text in the page not realising it was live or something.

      And bizarre in what way?

  9. As per usual the South Downs Rambler timetable is only published a couple of days before it starts and with no other advertising that I can see. Is it any wonder not many people use it?

  10. Can anyone explain why on Traveline City Red 9 is shown in the evenings as running via Radstock and Spring Roads, but First City Red show it as operating its normal route?

  11. Does anyone know whether the South Downs Rambler will be operated using open top buses?

    1. No, that would be impossible due to the amount of tree cutting involved.

  12. Good to see Bluestar 17 heaving as bus passengers finally wake up to the fact that First Southampton is rotten.
