- Xelabus X2: Eastleigh - Boyatt Wood
- Xelabus X3: Eastleigh - Asda
From today, 10th April, we have new timetables on the following routes:
- First 8: Southampton - Hedge End Station
- First 13: City Centre - Harefield
- First X5: Southampton - Gosport
From next Sunday, 17th April, there's a new timetable on:
- Stagecoach 66: Romsey - Winchester
Although First keep tinkering round with timetables of their services,it would seem also Stagecoach keep tinkering round with their 66
ReplyDeletePoor timekeeping on 66 is the reason for re-timing. Many buses have been arriving in Romsey well after they due to depart on the return journey, sometimes several minutes late. Getting out of Winchester is the cause.
ReplyDeleteSurely this has always been the case in getting in and out of Winchester
DeleteIt is amazing that the 66 looks like it will now have a peak vehicle requirement of five, plus the college buses. Obviously the Abbotswood developer funding plays a large part in this, but nonetheless it is impressive and time will tell whether it can be sustained. Only a few years ago when the Rail Link funding ended it almost didn't have any morning peak journeys at all (except the college buses), until Stagecoach decided at the last minute to re-instate one journey at about 0800 following a public outcry. Going back even further it was a basic hourly service with all journeys diverting via Hiltingbury. How times have changed!
DeleteIt's also amazing that the off peak cycle time will now be two hours. Only a few years ago the round trip took an hour and five minutes! (albeit on a slightly shorter routing pre-Abbotswood). Worsening traffic congestion and lower speed limits along the route have put paid to that.
The 66 is now going through the Abbotswood development, rather than around the edge, using the "bus gate" to/from Woodley Lane, although the "bus gate" isn't actually a gate, rather a short section of road with no entry signs restricting usage to buses. Except they are being ignored...
DeleteNo surprise here,as most motorist nowadays ignore most things and just do there own thing. So much for all the additional tests the Government have introduced over the years that people have to pass before they can even take their driving test. The state of driving on observation is appauling. In fact when I'm out and about the number I see on mobile phones daily is considerable, such as women driving children to school, and of course white van man,who is a law to Himself

Interesting letter in today(Tues)edition of the Daily Echo, from a disabled bus user, who claims Xelabus is the worst service they have had,the writer says the drivers are rude and don`t wait for disabled passnegers to be seated before moving away.I assume from the writer`s address that they are an X10 user.
ReplyDeleteI saw this as well.I thought all bus operators would wait till disabled passengers are seated, before pulling away in 2016!
DeleteNo comment from Xelabus on this!!
DeleteGood Afternoon
DeleteThe customer in question was satisfied with the explanation from the company. She has been very complimentary about the majority of drivers and it was an isolated occurrence.

Shame on Xelabus,if this is indeed true!
ReplyDeleteI was on a Xelabus a couple of years ago when a disabled person with escort was turned away full stop. I never did understand why that was.
DeleteAlthough not this area,I note this week drastic cuts in rural service in Dorset. Most cuts, but not all, are the withdrawell of once a week operated market day services.I must presume that most of these services saw there hey day many moons ago,and with some it's been a miracle they have survived so long. However it's sad to see them go,but I'm sure most of them were only carrying a few elderly diehards, and not worth the cost of a subsidy.I'm sure in the future more will follow in our area
ReplyDeletesome hants cuts/reduction have been announced on 125 Ringwood -Christchurch service -will soon only run 2 days per week-crazy situation ,this time last year there was a 5/6 day service--even forest bus baby summer service has been dropped
DeleteYet what about this for wasteful spending?
ReplyDeleteYesterday I rode More x1/2 between Bomo and New Milton. New poles and flags were abundant proudly bearing Dorset CCs name and shield, all generic. Of course to keep us plebs informed the operators' flags are still needed.

Can anyone confirm the rumour First is making all its office staff redundant? I was expecting joy from certain commenters if true.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who starts all these silly rumours, but even if certain staff were made redundant, they would still need a certain amount of staff to keep the operation going
DeleteWhy would there be joy at job losses??
Deleteis it me or has the local bus network gone to pot since the introduction of the free bus pass ?
ReplyDeleteI think I was the only fare paying passenger on a busy BS2 recently
You will find that most bus services carry free pass holders of some sort, who tend to be the majority of users. If nowadays there were not these passengers being carried, most bus would be empty ner enough all day
ReplyDeleteTo be honest that isn't really true. Yes lots of free pass holders are carried, but on the main commercial routes they are still very much a minority of the total passengers. Obviously pensioners do make up a large proportion of the weekday off-peak passengers on many routes, but hasn't that always been the case? Most other people will be at work or school during that time, therefore not on the buses!
DeleteIt`s always full of the push chair brigade, during the daytimes anyway!
DeleteDoes anyone ever stop to think,"why am I denigrating pass holders"? Yes, the system has been screwed up by the government and cash strapped councils. For that the user cannot be blamed.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the faults of the system, it does supply a revenue stream to operators. How sure can one be that without free or part-pay passes, people would not reduce their travel to the point that all-in fare revenue would be at similar levels as now, or, perhaps, even worse?
What makes Me smile is, that I have known many people in the past who have complained to Me that they should not have free travel, but on reaching the age where they can get one,are some of the first to get one.As the population now lives longer, that's why there are more about, and likely to continue to rise in numbers. Also likely to rise in numbers are elderly people driving their own cars, who now rarely use public transport unless absolutely necessary, like the car being off the road for maintenance
ReplyDeleteNumbers of passengers will continue to dwindle,as more shoppers opt to shop online ,rather than bus into town to do it.This has affected the number of journeys made by pensioners and teens.Buses used to filled with teens on a Saturday afternoon, this not being the case in 2016.
