First E1/E2 timetable fiasco

First have issued a news item on their website about the E1 and E2, which transfer to them from Wheelers from next Monday.

And it has several inaccuracies...

Inaccuracy 1: "The first three E1 morning journeys an will start from Portswood Broadway". A look at the timetable reveals that only the first two journeys will start from Portswood. Whoever wrote the news item didn't notice that one journey (the 0723) is marked schooldays only and the other (0733) runs on school holidays and Saturdays only.

Inaccuracy 2: "The last E1 afternoon journey will also return to Portswood Broadway". While technically true, this doesn't give the full picture. The last two buses continue to Portswood, one of which is an E1 and one of which is an E2.

Inaccuracy 3: The timetables on First's website still incorrectly show most northbound journeys as starting from Boyatt Wood when they actually start from Eastleigh Bus Station.

Here are the accurate timetables, courtesy of Traveline:

  1. It's been mentioned several times recently by postings on this blog about the errors on the E1/E2 timetable, and I'm sure someone has informed them about the errors. It's things like this that that cause them complaints from customers, where it would seem at First it falls on deaf ears

  2. Do they care? Do they still want services in this area? One has to wonder!

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but so far I have not seen any mention on a Wheeler's website as to the fact they will cease to operate the E1/E2 after 10th October 2015,but the services will still operate but by another operator.

  4. Neither Wheeler's nor First come out of this with much credit. Mind you, stagecoach wouldn't have put the timetables on its website at all if past form is any indicator.

  5. You have to laugh.Within the last hour First have now put the information about E1/E2 in their First Southampton website, but have still not corrected the errors

  6. At last the E1/E2 timetable on the First website under timetables has now been corrected and reads as it should do

  7. Only the Saturday timetable? Still no Eastleigh Bus Station departure time on the M-F TT as I see it?

  8. Surely by todays standards that's ok,we should all be grateful that they have even bothered to inform us

  9. Well they do now have the correct M-F timetable, but they also still have the incorrect one. Oh well, sure it'll be right in time for Monday morning...

Any idea why they're listing the route as E2/E1? I could understand putting E2 first if the majority of journies use that number. But they don't. You would have thought first would put the first number first!

  10. When you split bus stops you ask for trouble. The latest being Bullar Road towards Bitterne where only the Bluestar 3 and Xelabus X10 and X11 now use the Gyratory Road.Over the past few weeks I have noted quite a few Bluestar 3's run direct via Bitterne Road West and miss out the stop in the Gyratory Road.Xelabus on ocassion also miss the Gyratory Road stop out.Not much fun for any potential passengers who want to travel on the 3,X10 or X11 beyond Bitterne who have no other alternative.

  11. Quite right, Anon at 14 October, 18:28. I am surprised that whoever in the Council approves locations of bus stops let this one go. Is there actually anyone doing that job, with all the cuts to Council spending, or are the operators left to do what they want, regardless of road safety and traffic flow? Anyway, it's most certainly not an ideal spot.

  12. I do wish Bluestar would up date their fare zone map information on their website. Some bits are correct other bits arn't.They were until recently so good at updating information, but of late they seem to be slipping.

  13. First have cut ticket prices across the board:
    http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/13887049.Bus_fares_in_Southampton_to_be_slashed/

"From today anyone taking a First bus in Southampton will pay less for their ticket as the company has reduced it prices for services in the city.

Customers will pay up to 25 per cent less for journeys on their city services whilst all of the prices of First’s day, weekly, monthly and annual tickets for the Southampton network are being reduced in a bid to attract more people to public transport, particularly shoppers in the run up to Christmas."

  14. Desperate measures it would seem by First in Southampton where they now have or will have competetion in areas they had little or no competetion earlier in the year, with quite considerable fare reductions. At some stage with something the axe is going to fall somewhere else on their network to compensate all this surely.
