Velvet M to Marwell Zoo launches this Friday!

Marwell Zoo is easy to get to again as of this Friday! Velvet M will run every Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday until 2nd September between Eastleigh bus and rail stations and the zoo, which I really can't bring myself to call a 'wildlife'. Details here.

If arriving by train, don't be tempted to use the Eastleigh Plusbus ticket as it is only valid as far as Fishers Pond and there are no footpaths from there to the zoo. Solent Travelcard will be valid however, not just on Velvet but on all operators' buses (except Xelabus) in South Hampshire.

  1. Anyone thought to contact Plusbus and ask to get Marwell included? They are usually very helpful and it is only a short extension to include the popular destination?

  2. The question has now been asked of them,so we shall see what they say.

  3. No, Marwell shouldn't be included in Eastleigh Plusbus because it is out of the Eastleigh urban zone. Plusbus is only meant for use on local buses within the town and immediate surrounding areas. That's why Colden Common, Chandlers Ford and Fair Oak are included. Marwell isn't part of the Eastleigh urban area and actually comes under Winchester City Council.

  4. The real question, surely, is when Solent Travelcard is available on every operator's services, why Xelabus are not particpating.

Exclusions such as this don't help anybody and merely serve to irritate and confuse the public on what should be a very straightforward product.

Come on, Gareth, join in !

  5. Now that Xelabus are running "normal" services as well as their supermarket & school specials it would be good if they could be in the Solent Travelcard scheme. Especially if they want to be recognised as a serious bus company & not just seen as an enthusiast living out his bus fantasies.

  6. Can I use my free Senior bus pass on this bus?
